
With the credit union philosophy of "people helping people" in mind, RCU participates in a number of programs to help our local communities.
Redwood Credit Union (RCU) is committed to giving back to the communities in which we serve. The United Way is one of the key organizations that we support each year. Donating to the United Way is a wonderful avenue for giving to local charities and organizations of your choice. In 2007 over 200 Redwood Credit Union employees came together during the annual United Way campaign to raise $67,670 for our community.
Holiday Donation ProgramsAs in previous years, RCU participated in annual holiday donation programs in 2007. Unwrapped holiday gifts for needy children and non-perishable food items were collected at all RCU branches. We thank you for your generosity!
Hands Across the County/National Make a Difference Day is a county-wide clean-up day, organized by the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County. Each year, a team of staff members and Officials from The Redwood Group volunteers for this event to help make a hands-on difference in our community.
The "Hands Across the County" event took place on Saturday, October 27 from 9:00am to 12:00 noon. As we have for the past few years, RCU assisted at Harvest for the Hungry in Santa Rosa, an organization which grows and distributes fresh produce for those in need.
RCU participated in the Catwalk for a Cure which was held at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts ( LBC) in Santa Rosa. The Catwalk for a Cure benefits Breast Cancer Research.
October 14-20, 2007Many Members joined RCU to help celebrate International Credit Union Week and pay tribute to the credit union difference. All of RCU's thirteen full service branches celebrated with giveaways, a coloring contest for the kids, raffle prizes and more.
It was that time again to get out cool shirts, pick up a bowling ball and put on those fabulous bowling shoes. RCU formed teams for this year's and had a great time participating in Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Sonoma County Bowl-A-Thon.
September 29 & 30, 2007 Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day, cancer will be eliminated. RCU is a sponsor of all the Sonoma County Relay's.
Rock 'n Blues by the LakeRedwood Credit Union was a proud sponsor of the 5th annual Rock 'n Blues by the Lake at Stafford Lake in Novato. The proceeds from this event go to local schools to fund their much needed educational programs. Appearing this year was Sammy Hagar and the Wabo's, the Bacon Brothers and more. September 14th - 27thRedwood Credit Union (RCU) partnered with the Blood Bank of the Redwoods (BBR) to host blood drives at several of our North Bay locations during the month of September. Many people joined us in giving the gift of life.

Everyone had a great time at the Joe Cool Snoopy Festival held at the Schulz ball field next to the museum. All the Snoopy statues from this year's program were displayed and food, drink and live music made it a fund party.

The American Heart Association is the largest voluntary health organization working to prevent, treat and defeat heart disease, stroke and other cardiovascular diseases. RCU was a sponsor of the event and an RCU team participated in the walk.
“A Day of Caring” is the annual kick-off event for the local United Way campaign season, and mobilizes volunteers on loan from businesses all over the North Bay to assist with a variety of non-profit community programs. It is a fabulous opportunity to make a direct, hands-on difference, and to feel more connected to your community! RCU had volunteer teams in Sonoma, Mendocino and Marin counties.
Chili Cook OffThe annual Ukiah Chili Cook-Off was held September 7th in downtown Ukiah.Team Dr. Seuss served up some great Chili. All proceeds from the sale of tickets, chili, raffle, beverages and entry fee went to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ukiah's Youth Development Programs.
RCU Members and the community were invited to bring sensitive documents to be shredded, courtesy of Shred-It, on-site at the RCU Corporate offices. More than 170 people attended with over 330 boxes of materials to be shredded, and more than 40 people attended seminars on protecting yourself from Identity Theft and Fraud.
Three lucky winners also received personal shredding machines, and two received free identity theft kits provided by RCU Insurance Services. In our efforts to partner for Member security, RCU hopes to host shredding events up to twice a year, so watch for upcoming notices and more information.

RCU has been given the opportunity to support the Napa community by sponsoring their very popular 4th of July Celebration. This annual family event draws more than 10,000 people and features business and food booths, family oriented musical acts and - of course - a fireworks display. The event this year was held July 4th from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. in downtown Napa between Third and Browne Streets.

A Celebrate Community Gigantic Garage Sale hosted by the Press Democrat, Empire College and your Credit Union was held Saturday June 30th at the Empire College/Redwood Credit Union parking lot.
Funds raised are going towards assisting many local nonprofits through the Celebrate Community Fund.
Youth Business Week California (YBW) is a hands-on learning experience in advanced business concepts, corporate citizenship and financial literacy that educates high school students about teamwork, leadership and the real-life business world during a week-long program. A longtime supporter of this program, RCU is a Silver sponsor and employees volunteer to help out with this program.
Redwood Credit Union (RCU) is once again proud to be a sponsor of the Peanuts on Parade program, presented by the City of Santa Rosa to honor one of its great residents, Charles Schulz 100 Joe Cool Snoopy statues will be displayed throughout Santa Rosa between May & Sept. The Statues will be painted from May 16 - 20th at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds. RCU's theme this year is "Stay Cool Snoopy".

Each year the Luther Burbank Rose Parade & Festival draws more than 3,500 participants to downtown Santa Rosa with over 120 entries, including high school bands, drill teams, dance troops, non-profit groups, equestrians, clowns and of course, politicians. In addition, it takes more than 300 volunteers each year to coordinate different aspects of the parade and festival. RCU's parade entry theme will be "Wild About Community". Redwood Credit Union is a proud sponsor of the Human Race in three of the counties we serve: Sonoma, Marin and Mendocino. Each year, an enthusiastic RCU team participates in each of these three races to support our communities and raise funds for local non-profits. In 2006, RCU contributed over $14,000 in pledges and sponsorship dollars, with over 50 employees walking or running in the races!
RCU is proud to help Blood Bank of the Redwoods by hosting blood drives for employees, Members and the community. At a blood drive held May 8th at the RCU Corporate Offices, 22 units of blood were donated. Be looking for future blood drive information on our home page.
The Butter & Eggs Day Parade and Celebration is an event held in historic Petaluma the weekend of Saturday, April 28th, 2007. Now celebrating its 26th year, this event consistently draws a broad based and family-oriented crowd of over 30,000 from all parts of the North Bay Area. The main component is a parade with over 2,000 participants strolling twelve blocks through the downtown streets of Petaluma. This years theme is "Super Town, Super Heroes". Redwood Credit Union volunteers had a great time in the parade.
Harvest for the Hungry held their annual Spring Plant Sale on Saturday, April 28, 2007. Organically grown vegetables, flowering perennials, medicinal plants, culinary herbs, and annuals were available. All proceeds go toward helping sustain the Harvest for the Hungry Garden, which grows and distributes fresh organic produce, herbs, flowers and plants for local shelters and food banks. Schools Plus Telethon- March 26th and 27th On March 26 & 27, Redwood Credit Union was a sponsor of the Schools Plus telethon helping to raise money for Sonoma County School's music, arts, and sports programs. RCU volunteers also manned the phone banks.
Schools Plus is a partnership of concerned parents, educators, individuals from our community and sponsoring companies who all come together with a shared belief that co-curricular activities are not expendable luxuries in the education of our youth.
