Flood

Coverage against loss resulting from flood that is widely available under a program developed by the private industry and the federal government.

Liability Protection For Homeowners

Liability covers you against lawsuits for bodily injury or property damage that you or family members cause to other people. It also pays for damage caused by your pets.

The liability portion of your policy pays for both the cost of defending you in court and any court awards - up to the limit of your policy.

Liability limits generally start at about $100,000. However, higher limits are recommended.

Your policy also provides no-fault medical coverage. In the event a visitor is injured in your home, he or she can simply submit medical bills to your insurance company. This way, expenses are paid without a liability claim being filed against you. It does not over the medical bills for your family or pet.

Homeowner's Policy: A package policy of insurance designed to provide homeowners with a broad range of coverages for their dwelling and personal property and liability coverages pertaining to events at home as well as away from home (although not automobile-related).

Personal Property

Your home is filled with your possessions such as furniture, clothes, sports equipment and other items that are valuable and can be costly to replace. Personal Property insurance helps replace these items if they are lost, stolen or destroyed as a result of a covered loss.

Scheduled Personal Property Coverage

In addition to general personal property, if you own special items such as jewelry, art, antiques or collectibles you may want to talk to us about this additional coverage in order to provide broader coverage.

Rental

Coverage designed to protect against losses caused by fire and lightning, plus resultant damage caused by smoke and water. This coverage is normally designed to cover the dwelling structure but not the contents inside the structure. Coverage includes loss of rents. Usually a special form endorsement is added to this policy that includes all risk coverage with certain exclusions. Contents and liability coverage may be added.

Renters Insurance

You may not own the place where you live, but you still need insurance protection. If a fire or other unexpected event occurs, your landlord´s insurance probably won´t cover the damage to your belongings. Renter´s insurance covers your personal property and may cover the cost of additional living expenses (i.e., having to live elsewhere while your apartment is being repaired) resulting from the covered loss.

What is Homeowners Insurance?

Homeowners insurance provides financial protection against disasters. A standard policy insures the home itself and the things you keep in it.

Homeowners insurance is a package policy. This means that it covers both damage to your property and your liability or legal responsibility for any injuries and property damage you or members of your family cause to other people. This includes damage caused by household pets.

Damage caused by most disasters is covered but there are exceptions. The most significant are damage caused by floods, earthquakes and poor maintenance. You must buy two separate policies for flood and earthquake coverage. Maintenance-related problems are the homeowners' responsibility.

Know Your Stuff

Taking the time to put together a list documenting all of the contents in your home or small business could be a very daunting process for most. The Insurance Information Institute has now streamlined the process for creating a home inventory list by allowing consumers to download a FREE copy “Know Your Stuff” software by visiting www.knowyourstufflorg. The software is very user friendly, only takes a few minutes to download, and all the information entered will be saved on your computer's hard drive.

Once you have completed your home inventory, be sure to have your insurance agent review your inventory list to ensure your current policy has sufficient coverage. It is also important to save a copy of your home inventory on a CD and store the CD in a fireproof safe or safe deposit box. Or, email a copy of the inventory list to a trusted friend or family member.
